Mumbai, July 22: Fresh from his back-to-back title victories at Silverstone and Hockenheim, Germany earlier this month, British race sensation and 2008 Grand Prix leader Lewis Hamilton is to visit Mumbai for a promotional tour on July 24.

The 23-year-old Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team's red hot property, who has scorched the tracks in only his second year in Formula One, would be seen driving a go kart for a lap at the Hakone track in Powai, according to sources connected with organising his visit to India.

"Hamilton will be giving Formula One enthusiasts a rare opportunity to meet him and race against the fastest time set by him. He will also be interacting with Vodafone customers and media persons," they said.

Hamilton (58 points), who finished second overall behind Finnish ace Kimi Raikkonen in his debut Formula One season, last year, is currently ahead of second-placed Brazilian Felipe Massa (Ferrari) by four points.

Unknown Wealth Management Skills of Mr. Kesar Singh ji ( AC cab owner)

Link: vikas panditrao: Unknown Wealth Management Skills of Mr. Kesar Singh ji ( AC cab owner).

We reached an hour before the scheduled meeting with Financial Institution, hence went to CCD to pass the time . All along the discussion my senior colleague went on cribbing about how poor he is inspite of taking home fat salary. Thanks to the lovely café frappe which made me feel better . Post our meeting we struggled but managed to get a AC Cab driven by Sardar ji .

That 90 minutes in the AC Cab from Lower parel to Vile Parle was an experience worth quoting .

The moment the traffic was getting jammed, I found this cab driver pulling the window down and would start whistling. The result was the jammed traffic would move. He went on doing this and the traffic was getting cleared every time . I was surprised at this and was very curious to know the connection between the whistling and traffic clearance. On asking, sardar ji informed that most of car owners keep talking over the mobile while driving and this tends to slow the traffic. The moment they listen to the whistle they disconnect the call and concentrate on driving. Thinking that traffic police was near by .

Wow!! Papaji what a thinking!!!

His creative mind prompted me to start a conversation with him. Soon I came to know his name was Mr Kesar Singh . He has been driving the cab since 1971 and owns a 500 sqft house at Powai . He had four daughters and one son, all were well educated and settled in life . Eldest daughter being MBA , 2nd daughter was B. Ed and 3d Daughter was MA (Economics ) . The youngest son had done marine engineering and serves for Foreign shipping.

Hearing to all that my colleague suddenly woke-up and started actively participating in the conversation . He discovered a Rich dad in this poor man . I could gauge what my colleague must be thinking and hence I asked Kesar Singh about his earning . He was open and revealed that average earning is Rs. 20,000 per month ( Tax free ) .

My colleague was not able to digest the fact that Kesar ji was happy and successful inspite earning 1/10th less than him .

People like Kesar ji are real Wealth Managers. They manage all the risk in life so well without exposure to ANY Insurance or Equity or Mutual Funds. They not only teach us how to live a content life, they also teach that happiness has no connections with your earnings.

Many people like Kesar sing Ji have mastered the art of whistling whenever the live Jammed. They are the unknown FUND MANAGERS.

Please congratulate Kesar Sing Ji today on +91 9869156377. May be you can hire his AC Cab and also learn from him the art of whistling out the trouble in life .

Think Labs, an IIT Mumbai alumnus venture, is giving kids a chance to express their true “Transformers” or for that matter any other Cartoon Network, Animax, robot fantasy. They’ve organized a kid’s summer camp for robotics for students from standard VII to XII.

The camp, called SCORE - (Summer Camp On Robotics Education) is aimed at school and junior college students which in itself is the first of its kind in India. The summer camp will be a week long course conducted every week of May and June at IIT Mumbai.

The motivation which led to the conceptualization of SCORE was the question 'Why are students in India lagging behind if the robotics scenario abroad is so advanced?' Team Think Labs, with help from Fred Rose, Director Honeywell and Prof C. Amarnath, IIT Mumbai, are trying to determine just that with the help of this program. This specially developed course includes a versatile iMACH programmable robot kit, simple programming environment and an activity cookbook.

The first batch of SCORE will start from May 12th 2008 and will be held over 6 days, every week till the end of June at IIT campus in Powai.

Environmentalists call for strict ban on plastic bags

Link: Gulfnews: Environmentalists call for strict ban on plastic bags.

Mumbai:  Young environmentalists from suburban Powai are planning to encourage schoolchildren to make cloth bags for their mothers and neighbours this summer vacation to help spread the message of saying no to plastic bags.

Several attempts to tax or ban plastic bags have failed not only because of opposition from manufacturers and traders but also because "it is so easy to simply ask for and use plastic bags from the shopkeeper and not feel guilty about contributing to our planet's degradation", said Elsie Gabriel, president, Young Environmentalists Programme Trust.

Mumbai cannot afford to forget how plastic bags were a major reason for choked drains and flooding during the torrential rains of July 2005 that claimed nearly a thousand lives, she said.

"That is why our Trust has invited Mumbai's Mayor Dr Shubha Raul to visit Powai Lake, where a civic beautification project is under way, to ask her to put in place a stringent ban on plastic bags before this year's monsoon," she added.

The environmentalists live close to the Mithi River and the Powai Lake and feel it is time "our children are taught to love and conserve nature through our own actions. Therefore, it is time we stopped using plastic bags for shopping," said Gabriel. In creating awareness among the youth, the Trust takes children on field trips which include lion safari, nature treks, mangrove tours, lake ecology and rain water harvesting to get a first hand knowledge of environmental science, a subject that has been made compulsory in schools.

"What better way for stressed out students to bond with nature and experience its beauty and tranquillity," said Gabriel who is a nature artist, a full-time social worker and photographer.

MUMBAI, Apr 09, 2008 (Hindustan Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- -- In November 2007, as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers raided then provident fund commissioner KS Arya for misappropriation of funds on behalf of a private firm, they stumbled upon a set of documents that made their eyes pop out. The papers seemed to indicate that real estate pioneer Hiranandani Group had paid provident fund for only part of its workforce while keeping the rest of the money due for itself, said CBI sle Free Report! Double, Triple or Even Quadruple Your Returns Using ETFs

uths on condition of anonymity.

On Tuesday, the CBI raided five Hiranandani Group companies across seven locations in Powai and Nariman Point to uncover the full extent of the misappropriation.

The money -- Rs 168 crore over 2003-05, according to the documents -- should have gone into the provident fund coffers to secure the future of their staffers.

CBI officers said the group -- which clocked a turnover of Rs 1,600 crore over the last year -- would illegally gain a double benefit by showing salaries of all employees as an expense in the balance sheet, while paying provident fund for only a section of the workforce. Bogus bills, said the officers, were prepared for the rest of the money due.

The department has now registered cases of cheating and criminal conspiracy against Niranjan Hiranandani, his brother Surendra and four officers of the Regional Provident Fund Commissionerate.

G Mohanty, CBI spokesperson in Delhi, confirmed the raids and the amount. Niranjan told Hindustan Times in the evening: "We have complied with the law. However, we are cooperating with the officials."

Last November, as the CBI quietly started to probe the group's finances, it learnt that the Regional Provident Fund Commissionerate had raided the Hiranandanis in 2006 and uncovered the irregularity. "However, the commissionerate failed to take action," said a senior CBI officer.

On March 29, the CBI lodged a first information report against the Hiranandani brothers, Arya (who is now posted in Kolkata), retired provident fund commissioner MR Yadav, assistant commissioners (provident fund) Rajnikant and K Gopalan, whose house in Vasai was also raided.

That information helped the CBI prepare for Tuesday's raids on the real estate arms of the Hiranandani Group -- Hiranandani Developers, Hiranandani Constructions, Hiranandani Properties, Roma Builders and Lake Meadows Hotels and Resorts.

The CBI is checking how long this racket continued. Income-Tax also visited the group's Powai office in the evening.

Elsie Gabriel

Link: Planet Powai Online

Powai - 23 March 08 : One must have come across Elsie's name often in 'Planet Powai' and M&P Plus. She is a resident of Powai, whose journey from a journalist to an environmental crusader has been fascinating. Yes, Elsie is a woman of substance in the true sense of the word. What makes her stand out today is the cause she now espouses of connecting the GenNext of the Eastern Suburbs to the resurgent topic of Environment.

Her recent initiative of rolling out the Young Environmentalists Programme(YEP) has taken-off well in bringing children to nature locations and imbibing a sense of eco-preservation in the impressionistic minds.

It is this aspect of familiarizing the children with nature walks, showing them the ills and pollution on ground, bringing out the balance of nature and man and above all instilling a feeling of appreciating nature's gift in the flora and fauna diversity. Coupled with this she infuses lessons that will equip them to handle this perishable gift by god and oft-not-understood by us adults, so engrossed in the daily grind, that will prepare these youngsters to change the equation when they don roles in their mainstream of life someday.

Elsie has been brought-up in Kolkata with her schooling from Loreto Convent. She moved to Mumbai in 1988 and graduated from Sophia College. She basically dons two roles one being a home-maker and carefully rations her time for her passion of environment running the YEP in between. A mother two children, she loves to cook for her husband Victor Ferns, once he is in Powai, who is often offshore. She is all praises of her spouse who is the rock-bed of her support. She fully endorses her cause and even accompanies her to her outdoor field station for kids' nature and eco-walks and events, when in town.

Presently, Elsie is doing her studies in Environmental Law to learn more about means to help sustain nature in India. She is a worldwide avid traveler with a passion for discovering insights into various cultures and social traits that form the very basis of the social fabric of life, highly interest her. Her attachment and tryst with water, lakes, beaches and rivers have taken her to explore not only the Powai Lake but also the Hoover Dam in Las Vegas, Lakes in LA, Malaysia, Mauritius, Switzerland, Holland, Nepal, Lakshwadeep and France besides numerous other water spots of the world. Her other passions are in area's of adventure sports, photography, culinary delights, gardening and environment painting.

“The Powai Lake-A Rural Blessing In an Urban Setting”- is a pictorial and chronological book written by her, on the Powai Lake, aimed at exploring the history, geography and science of the Powai Lake with the aim to eventually bring it under the protection of the Ramsar Convention. With the onslaught of the Revival and beautification of the same by the present government, hopefully the illustrations and photographs of the Lake will remain an insight into what was and is the essence of the Powai Lake as it metamorphosis and arises from it's numerous transitional stages.

Drawing inspiration from her childhood mentor Elsie says, “Yes, my childhood memories are filled with painting sessions near tree's and ponds and outdoor nature spots. I will always be grateful to my childhood Guru -Brogan who painstakingly taught me patiently the art of spreading a message through one's paintings, whether it was painting a bright sunny day or a dried up river! Through my paintings and writings I hope to bring about a greater awareness of the threats to the natural environment. I paint oceans and lakes from my personal travels all around the world too and bring together a wealth of knowledge through my paintings which depict flamingoes, birds, wetlands and mangroves and numerous subjects like deforestation, global warming among many environmental curriculum related topics.”

Her latest initiative, the Young Environmentalists Program has been her metamorphosis into an active environment-crusader of her heart-felt philosophy and passion. She has built up a formidable team at YEP consisting of Vivienne Chaudhary-mangroves crusader and secretary of YEP, V Appukutan-treasurer of YEP also a veteran of Powai and a past GIANTS president, Prof KC Sahu, a staunch environmentalist and an ex-IIT faculty member is an advisor to YEP.

She maintains this is just the beginning to impact local environment with her humble effort. She would like more people to join the movement and corporates too to come forward in this. It is the synergizing of local forces that will make the difference.

Surely, women of substance like Elsie inspire not only the young generation but reassure mankind's faith in the womankind, who not only rocks the cradle and nurture human life, but she also becomes the preserver of Mother Earth in continuance of the entire human race by advocating her cause.

Powai - 16 March 08 : Based on the RTI application filed by PAWS last year it revealed that more than 75deer have been kept in captivity without proper care in the Powai Municipal Garden for last 40 years without permission from the Central Zoo Authority's (CZA) or the Wildlife Authority. “Every year, during rains, these poor animals have to languish in muck and flood. The deer enclosure neither has proper sheds nor any feeding facilities for the animals. Usually, when it rains, they all huddle up in a small area which has a roof,” Sunish Subramanian, member secretary of PAWS said. He added, “Hopefully, this time around, the shifting will be complete before the monsoons.” But now their fate is close to freedom. Nearly one year after deciding to release the animals in the wild at Tungareshwar, the state forest department said that arrangements are on to begin shifting by March end. Speaking on their relea

‘Bag’ging the world, Shopping,

Link: Mulund-Powai Plus - ‘Bag’ging the world, Shopping,.

There is every reason to watch out for this young lady. Not only is she bold and beautiful, her enterprising skills are exemplary. Meet Bhavna Kumar Chatterjee, originally from Delhi, this Punjabi kudi married into a Bengali family in Powai.

Bhavna set out to write her success story right from her days at NIFT, Delhi as an undergraduate student for accessory designing. "The comprehensive course spread over three and a half years developed my design skills especially in leather lifestyle goods and handbags. While at NIFT, I did projects with Dastkar (an NGO promoting the crafts and textiles of India), with Guruman Trendsetters, followed by my as a product designer at Vivaldi leather, one of India's top most leather export houses," says Bhavna about her learning years.

With a drive to go independent, Bhavna started her own production house in 2002, where she designed and manufactured for private exporters and design houses. There has been no looking back since then as Bhavna has only grown from strength to strength. Bhavna has been associated with stores like Circa, Ananya (Nandita Mahtani's store in Delhi and Mumbai), the Shoe Garage (Delhi), Metro shoes, Satya Paul, etc. to name a few!

After her marriage and relocation in Powai, this entrepreneur staged her first collection last year.  There has been no stopping after that. "Powai is a wonderful place to work in, firstly it is very well connected and also I find the people of Powai very fashionable and fashion conscious," says Bhavna, who has set up her own company here called Zom-b.

Bhavna has also collaborated with numerous design houses abroad. Her main connection with the international market has been through export houses like Sage, Vivaldi and Lini designs. "I have developed collections for them for design fairs abroad and for their private design houses," says a visibly excited Bhavna. Worked her way up the fashion ladder, Bhavna is making her name known with her straight edge designs and perfect handbag compilations.

Giving tips to catapult our readers to higher fashion grounds, Bhavna suggests, "In bags, the trend is a sleeker, cleaner and more structured look, without the lumpy untidiness of excessive bulky outside pockets on every available surface. Many bags have interesting trims such as studs, piping lines and tassels, but retaining a less fussy more streamlined look is in."

To add to the professional tips Bhavna says, "The fashionable pack already know that after dusk, small bags work best, the sleek, expensive and small look is in. A large bag takes points off elegance."
